CLASSES AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER

The Parks and Recreation Department’s purpose is to provide quality recreational programming for all ages, which includes health, wellness, arts, leisure, and education to enhance the quality of life for the citizens in our community. Class participants will not be required to hold a Community Center membership to participate in a class.  Some classes are not included in the membership packages, some classes are an additional cost.   

The Portland Community Center is always looking for instructors interested in providing instructional programs at our newly remodeled facility. If you have a special skill or talent and are interested in sharing this skill through an instructional class, then this is the place to get started! With our new large, renovated kitchen this would be an ideal space for cooking classes or demonstrations! Our large multipurpose room and open gym space is perfect for fitness classes! SilverSneakers Classic 

The SilverSneakers Fitness Program is a comprehensive older adult fitness program that addresses the needs of the Medicare (65+) population.  SilverSneakers aerobics is a chair-based fitness class that focuses on retraining useful movements which decline with age. This is a great class with activities paced for everyone set to fun, catchy tunes.

Iyengar Yoga 

The Portland Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer Yoga! Iyengar Yoga classes are ongoing with a variety of sessions that caters to most schedules. The classes will focus on posture, body alignment and healing. Instruction provided by Brigid Feydo. 

When:         Monday, Wednesday, Friday

Cost:            $12 Drop-in fee, $44 for 4 Classes, $52 for 6 Classes, $56 for 8 Classes, or $60 for 10 Classes 

BOOM Mind 

This SilverSneakers class is the best from yoga and Pilates combined into one fusion class designed to relax your body and mind. The focus is on core muscles, lower-body strength, and balance. Instruction provided by Janine Trinidad.

BOOM Move 

This SilverSneakers class is a fun, dance inspired workout that improves your cardio fitness with easy-to-follow moves set to energizing music. Instruction provided by Janine Trinidad.

BOOM Muscle 

This SilverSneakers class includes muscle-conditioning blocks and activity-specific intervals to improve cardiovascular health and functional skill. Instruction provided by Janine Trinidad.

DRUMBA 

A moderate intensity drumming exercise class that uses regular or weighted drumsticks with combinations of dance steps and exercise moves to create an intense, fast-paced cardio workout for the upper and lower body. This can be done standing or seated and is designed for all ages and abilities. Instruction provided by Janine Trinidad.

ZUMBA 

This class incorporates a variety of Latin-inspired dance moves and music to promote a healthy heart, a healthy dose of aerobic activity, and a fun, exciting way to build and tone muscle, improve cardio, promote flexibility, and decrease stress. Hope you can join us! Instruction provided by Esmeralda Megee from Zumama Fitness LLC.

ZUMBA GOLD 

This class is a lower intensity version of the typical Zumba class that is specifically designed for active aging adults! Hope you can join us! Instruction provided by Esmeralda Megee from Zumama Fitness LLC. Sponsored by the WellMed Charitable Foundation.

Healthy Kitchen 

Come and join us and learn some quick and easy healthy recipes. Whether it is a traditional favorite or a healthy snack idea you’ll be ready to be the star of your kitchen! Instruction provided by Joshua Prado. Sponsored by the WellMed Charitable Foundation.

Strength & Conditioning

This class will help you continue to build upper body, lower body, and core strength in a safe environment. This exercise program is especially designed for the aging adult. Instruction provided by Joshua Prado. Sponsored by the WellMed Charitable Foundation.

Crafty Creations

This class you will be able to showcase your creative minds with various arts and crafts projects that will cater to everyone! No experience is necessary just a willingness to learn and create something new! Sponsored by the WellMed Charitable Foundation.
